Naturalist (Perth) 6: 295 (1881). T: Australia, 1870, M.L.Anderson s.n.; lecto: BM, fide R.W.Rogers, Austrobaileya 1: 508 (1982); isolecto: GLAM.  
     
  Thallus tufted, to 2 cm long; fibrils very dense, usually short (c.0.5 mm long), very few c.2 mm long. Medulla narrow, dense; axis 1/3–3/5 width of branch. Apothecia usually to 10 mm diam.; fibrils dense on margin, often in several rows, some forked; lower surface with dense short fibrils. CHEMISTRY: Cortex containing usnic acid. Medulla K–; containing scabrosins.
     
  Endemic to south-western W.A., S.A., N.S.W. and Vic.
